Fashion Illustration Courses

I got in touch with a reader yesterday, who asked me if I knew of any courses that you could do in London. So i've done my research and brought to you this post. Shoutout to Harriett who gave me this idea!

So whatever your age or ability there is something for everyone when it comes to fashion illustration/fashion design. Courses are rarely ever free, so be willing to pay some cash for it. You just have to look long and hard before you find it. The things i'm going to list here are available for anyone who is 13 +

I hope that helped!

Summer

Hey guys, here in Britain I can finally say that summer is approaching or almost already has.  So I'm just going to tell you a few things about summer fashion!

Bright colours
Firstly Summer is for light colours. Black May be your style however try something new, you'll be surprised about how good it actually looks on you. Black absorbs heat, therefore you'll get hot and sweaty easily. It also makes you look incredibly pale. Stick to colours like white, bright yellows, oranges, greens, blues, purples, and hot pink.

Have a wardrobe sort/clear out.
Summer is the time that you change your clothes the most in the day. That's a fact, This is because it's hot therefore all the clothes you couldn't wear from September - May have all been sitting there and this is your chance to wear them and you only have a couple of months so you feel you need to do it quick. I am actually one of these people. When I sort out my wardrobe all I do is just get everything out, chuck it on my bed and organise a 'give to charity' or give to 'little cousin' pile. I give clothes to my little cousin because she loves my style and I hate throwing away things that are still good but don't fit me. So then I arrange my wardrobe in such a way that the winter clothing like hoodies, sweaters, jumpers etc are placed at the back of the wardrobe because I won't be needing those for a very long time. Some people go into detail such as colour and size coordination and everything, trouble is I'm a lazy person Lol. So I put my summer clothing at the front of the wardrobe so it's easy to get to. I do this for the winter too.

Summer shopping!
Some people may be fed up of the same old summer clothes and once in a while everybody needs to buy new ones.  Now, my parents aren't Halifax and with the shops I like its impossible to ask them to pay the full cost.  So if your like me, this is what I do - I am a fashion fanatic and addict (a fashionista) so apart from art materials it's all I spend my money on.  So from October I save and then I spend the money in July and August.  I'm terrible at saving.  I'm the kind of person who sees the money and has to spend it. Therefore I do mine like this - if I'm about to spend £5 I take £1.50 out of it. If I'm about to spend £10 I take £3 out of it.  If you would like to do this method, design yourself a little scale of how much you'll take off from certain amounts.

Recommended Summer Shops
If your a first time reader here on my blog you probably thought "Oh no! This the part where she's going to bang on about expensive apparel that I can't afford". Fortunately I'm a blogger who likes to talk about everyone's needs and situations so there will be a mix.

1. Hollister
As soon as you walk into Hollister you can tell that they're a beach shop. Hollister is fairly expensive and I actually don't own any. However I do love the clothes in there even though half of its all the same thing with the logo printed on. If your looking for clothes of good quality that will last you a long time this is a great shop to go to.

2. Primark
If you call yourself a fashionista, live in the UK and you haven't heard of Primark please leave. Your making me upset. Everyone must've been to Primark at least once. Primark is mass produced so there is loads to choose from. It is very very cheap and there's a lot of it. It's also very good for basics like v necks and camisoles.

3. Matalan
Matalan is like Primark however more expensive. It's not really my taste but some people may like it. I got a Matalan voucher of £50 to spend and I literally spent it all on there jewellery. I didn't like anything at all there And the things I did like we're over priced.
I hope these tips gave you some summer inspiration as to what to wear and what to do! Thank you so much for reading.

Box Braids Hairstyle: The Wrapped Bun

Hey guys! So today is my first box braid hairstyle and it's going to be one of my favourite hairstyles that I do a lot. So let's go!
Before we start I'd just like to show you the three most important products I use for my hair. The first one is Control Wig Spray and it's a substitute for the cream on the far right. It adds moisture to your hair underneath the extensions and prevents it from breaking when you take it out. The other spray is olive oil sheen spray and that just gives it shine and sheen after you've done whatever style.

From left to right: Control wig spray, Olive Oil Sheen Spray and Kids Organics Protein fortified Cream.

1. Take a section of hair from the front and tie it together, then tie the rest of the hair back. How high you tie it is up to you. The higher you tie it the higher the bun.

2. Make a bun with the hair at the back. (Secure any loose ends with bobby pins or tuck them in).

3. Take the hair band off the front section and split it into two. Wrap it around your head and where they both meet cross them over.

5. Tie the ends and tuck/bobby pin the ends down. To finish pin any lose hairs and spray with sheen spray.

Things to do in London - Ideally with teens or as a teen.

Hello to my fellow Londoners, Americans, Ghanaians, Nigerians, Chinese and everyone else who reads my blog! I've been meaning to do this post for ages, it's 101 points therefore the planning and research takes a lot of time. I'm doing this post in different sets so they're not all on one post. Schools out now! 6 GOOD WEEKS BABY! Anyway... lets get on with the post... These things are in no particular order, just random and my personal pics, so if you like my kinda stuff (art, fashion, music) these things may be for you!

1. Do a street art walking tour.

I've actually never done one of these before but that'll change this summer, usually I walk pass graffiti because i'm always in a rush but I really want to stop and see it sometime. You might see the wonderful works of Banksy and many others. You can find out where your nearest street art is or you can book a guided tour like i've done on: http://streetartlondon.co.uk/tours/

2. Hyde Park: http://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/hyde-park

Hyde Park is one of the beautiful royal parks in London and if you do live here then definitely visit, even if it's just a stroll or your going on a picnic. It's open from 5.00 am till midnight.

3. London Dungeons - ENTER AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

This is one place to really go and test yourself... what are you really scared of? Screams and shouts may come out, but it's a once in a lifetime experience that is definitely worth the cost, risk of passing out, loosing your voice and the wait.

4. The British Music Experience

Built into the o2, London is this musical exhibition that takes up 20,000 square feet of the o2. It was built in the o2 bubble in Greenwich. It explores British music since 1945 till now. Many events and exhibitions go on over there. So check them out! Their website is temporarily down - BOOHOO. Sometimes in these circumstances all you can do to find out is take a trip there...

5. Roundhouse  - Camden http://www.roundhouse.org.uk/

The roundhouse is based in Camden. I have actually walked passed here when going for my teen star audition but never been in. They inspire the next generation of musicians and run various workshops and activities to get you up and going with whatever musical talent you have. They also run shows and workshops on theatre, performing arts and many other stuff. There objective is 'space to create' for young people aged 11 - 25.

6. Shop till you drop in Camden Market! http://www.camdenlock.net/camdenlock/main/main.html

Camden Market is definitely a place where you can pick up a bargain! Whatever you like, they have! Camden Market stores are open every day except Christmas Day. From clothing, jewellery and shoes to antiques, paintings and collectibles they have them all. There's something for everyone in the family.

7. The Great West End!

The West End of London is known for their amazing Theater productions and these are a must see because they're an amazing experience. I've seen a couple myself and do recommend going to see one. You can buy tickets from almost any ticket distributor in London.

8. Tate Modern

Tate Modern is a museum that focuses on modern and contemporary art in Bankside, London. It's a great museum that I haven't been to yet, as an artist this is great to go to because you learn more. There is also Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives.

9. Namco's

Namco is a fun, exciting place that offer bowling services and other games, they have many venues - Braintree, Dagenham, Romford, London - County Hill.

10. Victoria and Albert Museum - http://www.vam.ac.uk/

The V&A museum is a great museum for art and design, has many exhibitions. They have an Alexander Mcqueen exhibition on soon that'll I'll definitely be visiting.

How to know if you're a fashion illustrator/designer or not.

Hi, to all my readers. You'll notice I have been playing around with the layout and template because I wanted to make the blog look a bit different. So! You may not know whether fashion illustration is for you or not, I was uncertain at first. So I did a little research.

1. CREATIVITY

If your not creative then stop reading. Creativity is a must. Why? As an illustrator/designer you are always creating and generating new ideas therefore you must be creative. The industry is very competitive and they are looking for new original material which is new and eye catching... therefore is a major necessity!

2. WILLING AND PATIENCE.

You've got to have a lot of patience and also willing to do a lot of things. You have to be willing to buy the materials, wait for progress and many other things. Now you can’t call yourself a true creative genius without having the equipment and essentials that enable your artistic flair to flourish! Be sure that you have many pencils, paints, fabrics, stencils, computer software, paper, colours and pastels that bring your work to life! You never know when you might need them and be sure to buy ones of good quality.

3. Talent
People get confused on this one... this does not mean be able to draw like the best in the world because I certainly can't. I think this talent is given, not the talent to be able to draw to perfection but the talent of somehow artistically able and willing to develop. Art is something people are born with, it's a gift and can't be taught to the highest degree. The best artists don't need lessons.

That's it!

London: Places to visit and things to do: FTM

SO THE HOLIDAYS ARE APPROACHING!

From my blog stats most of my readers are from London, so hi to all of you guys!!! This is a post about FTM in London. I'm also going to do another post exactly like this music related. There are simple things you can do to get away instead of dragging yourselves to museums and London's tourist attractions you've probably seen a million times because for me, Big Ben is a clock. Take me to Big Ben and I still see a Big clock and couldn't care less about it. If your reading this i'm assuming you like fashion someway or another so here are some thing to do, if you do like fashion! Leggo!

1. The Fashion and Textile museum.

Sundays, 11am–5pm

The word "museum" made you run didn't it. Relax. That's what I thought at first... UNTIL I VISITED IT!!! This museum is a place to learn about not only historical fashion but modern too. (By the way, the post on historical fashion is the most viewed post on this blog with over 700 views, so those of you who read that, it'd be worth going!) They have many different exhibitions and workshops for young people, I've attended loads of them and to be honest, it looks good in your portfolio.

Websites description:
The Fashion and Textile Museum is a cutting edge centre for contemporary fashion, textiles and jewellery in London. Situated in the heart of fashionable Bermondsey Village, in a fantastic building designed by Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, the FTM aims not just to display and collect items relating to fashion, jewellery and textile design, but to offer inspiration to a new generation of creatives.
